Wildlife Centre

My first weekend on duty at Sondela.

05/02/11-06/02/11

I started On Saturday morning at 07:30 at the wildlife centre.
I met the management and learned how everything worked like:
  1. Where the different foods for the animals gets prepared.
  2. How to measure the meat on a scale etc.
I slaughterd a warthog who's meat where given to the lions and the cheetah Trigger.
Rearanged the freezer where all the stock like:
  • Whole chickens
  • Pork meat
  • Chicks.
Are kept cool

I also cleaned cages and fed the:
  • Lions
  • Owl's
  • Avory
  • Genet cage
  • Caricol
  • Mongoose
  • Servel
  • Jacob (the wildebeest)
  • Clover (the Nyala)
I also fed Peanut and Matilda  wich is the two giraffes at the centre.

After lunch I helped packed the Nyala treats that gets sold to guest that they can feed to the Nyala and kudu etc.
I also plucked a Vulturine-Guinea fowl feathers to make a toy with the feathers for the servels.

The most fun part for me at the wildlife centre was; when I played with Dobby the bushbaby and to see how acrobatic such a small animal can be.

Also another thing you have to remember is that no matter where you are working at the wildlife centre, there are wild animals around you. So try to be alerted at all times and never turn your back at an animal,as it is still a wild animal and no matter how tame the animals are they can still injure you.

I love working at the Wildlife Centre and want to learn more and more everytime I get the chance in every department that im in.
